Pineapple Skin is very Useful as a Therapy
You might think this is bizarre, but in fact, eating the skin of the pineapple provides more benefits than the pineapple alone. Pineapple is known for having anti inflammatory benefits; and not to mention enzymes like Bromelain. Bromelain is a proteolytic enzyme (an enzyme that digests proteins) found in fresh pineapple. It is often used to treat muscle injuries, tendons, ligaments, arthritis rheumatoid and as a digestive aid because it helps to brake down protein. So it can also be used as a meat tenderizer; that is why it makes your tongue tenders and sting when you eat plenty of a pineapple, It’s heart healthy because it acts like a mild anticoagulant (that is a blood thinner).
In addition to the anti-inflammatory and anti-coagulant properties bromelain exhibits in the human body, it has also shown promise as an immunity booster. Studies have indicated it may enable certain immunity enhancing receptors in the body. All this is possible by the nutrients that lay right beneath the pineapple’s skin and underneath the crest of the pineapple, where most of the powerful bromelain enzyme is found.
I made this smoothie recipe to deliver the goodness and the therapy within this exotic fruit.
1- You will need a whole pineapple with the skin. Scrub and wash the pineapple well and proceed to cut the crest as close as possible from the crescent of the leaves, and cut open vertically this part using a butchers knife. Then cut off the skin vertically holding the pineapple in a stand up position (like shown in the picture)
2- Place all the pieces of skin and the open crest, in a large pot with filtered water just to cover all.
Optional: you can add 2 table spoons of cooked white rice with no salt. You can use up to 4 spoons of rice (this is only to add thickness).
3- If you wish you can add your favorite sweetener and some cinnamon. But particularly I love the mild taste of the pineapple juices this process provides.
4- Slightly heat at a temperature below 100 F (IT’S VERY IMPORTANT TO KEEP TEMP. BELOW 100 DEGREES) until pieces of skin and grain of rice are soft and bland. If you do not have a thermometer, regular electric stoves can provide this temperature when set to first number at very low. Other method that works is by sticking in your clean finger into the water and make sure is a very warm resistible temperature. When the temperature have been reached, turn off stove and let it stand overnight and drink first thing in the morning and place the rest in the fridge for drinking during the day. The amount to drink is usually 1/4 to 1/2 cup several times a day for 3 weeks or more.
Getting a bit of gastro irritability is normal. Drink up and enjoy the healing, because healing tendons and ligaments takes time.

Blend with some yogurt like drink or non dairy rice milk, or almond milk, or coconut cream and blend it again with some ice in the blender to create the most amazing tasting drink!
